Reach Out and Read is a nonprofit organization that helps build the bridge between children’s health and literacy. This is accomplished by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together. Reach Out and Read first program started at Boston City Hospital in 1989. Today, Reach Out and Read partners with more than 5,800 program sites and distributes 6.9 million books per year.
Anson Pediatrics, P.C. implements this program by partnering with Anson County Partnership for Children. The staff at Anson Pediatrics, P.C. utilizes books to help families not only read together but evaluate their child’s health. At well child visits, Dr. Elliott and Dr. Peters use books to display motor skills, literacy, and many other important milestones.
Healthy gums and teeth are important to your child's overall health. Therefore, your child's doctor will talk with you about good dental habits even before your child's first tooth appears.
Our physicians prescribe/recommend oral fluoride supplementation starting at age 6 months for children whose water supply is deficient in fluoride. Once your child has a tooth, your doctor will recommend that your child receive fluoride varnish treatments in the pediatrician's office to help prevent tooth decay. This can be done 2 to 4 times per year. The number of treatments depends on how likely it is that your child may get a cavity.
Our Pediatricians are trained to apply fluoride varnish because many young children do not see or have access to a dentist until they are older. Click on link below for questions
The Kids in Parks program has established a network of trails designed to provide kids and families with fun outdoor activities. Through their TRACK Rx program, our providers are promoting this program and formally prescribing our patients to get active outdoors and reconnected to nature through this exciting program.
